Honduras was devastated by Hurricanes Eta & Iota in November 2020. Homes were washed away, water lines destroyed and many thousands left homeless. We arrived here in January of that year to continue our support for these communities.
Our vision for this year is to help families move out of shelters and into new, small homes. We are working with local governments and engineers on this very big project. We have been told over and over again that no other help has arrived! Due to this, we are receiving a great deal of help and support from local authorities. With water lines destroyed all over the area, water is more contaminated than before. We brought water filters that we purchase through Sawyer Water Filter at a very reduced price and will continue to give them to those in need. Filters cost $20 per family and last for 10 years! We are bringing food to the hungry along with hygiene items such as soap, shampoo and toothbrushes. Our cost for each bag of food to feed a family for a week is about $8 per bag. Over 200 baby blankets and hats were provided for the midwives in the mountain villages. Hypothermia is a huge problem for the newborns in this area. A huge thank you to everyone who donated the needed items We were blessed to meet pastors and began to build a connection with the churches in Honduras. When we are not here, they continue to help us bring support to the people in need. They provide transportation, introductions and loving kindness when we are in Honduras. Sponsorship for a family who needs housing or ongoing support is another new project for Casa Verde. If you would like to help a family here through a one-time donation or monthly support, please contact us. Schools in the mountain villages of Honduras have very few school supplies. We bring paper, pencils, crayons, books in Spanish along with hygiene items. We have a small apartment in the city of Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara, Honduras. (Like New York, New York). We live here for 6-7 months out of the year and in Michigan for the rest of the year. Our amazing team on the ground in Honduras continues working each day when we are not here. |
Money for ProjectsBringing Bibles and teaching materials in Spanish to Honduran churches takes finances.
We are hoping to raise $1,000.00 Water filters cost us $25 each. We would love to bring 100 filters in April. That cost is $2500 Our support for families needing food takes about $250 per village we serve. With your help, we can feed many more. We cannot purchase teaching materials in Spanish for the churches of Honduras without your support. |
ItemsReceiving blankets, newborn hats, and money for hygiene items and food.
Reading glasses for the older population changes lives. It enables people to read their Bibles, mend clothing and take care of fences and fishing nets. Although crutches seem to be plentiful, we always have requests for canes and wheel chairs. If you have a one you are no longer using, please let us know. Many kids wear the same outfit everyday, so a new piece of clothing is much needed. It is cheaper to buy used clothing than to pay to bring it. Financial donations make this possible. |
PrayerAnd more than anything else, we need your prayers!
Prayer for future teams, increased finances and that doors are opened! God is mighty and prayers do so much as we experience the hand of God in all that we do here. |
